Opening Reception and
Artist Talk for Kinship Ecologies by Lara Felsing
6:00 – 8:00 pm
To enter Kinship Ecologies is to step into an expression of overwhelming gratitude for the
natural world. For Lara, this is only a small gift of thanks given to the land - to kin. Being in
kinship with the land is a collaboration, a partnership. It is a relationship built on care that
our society has been sorely neglecting. But, within Kinship Ecologies, we can see a world in
which humanity exists gently upon the land. Join us for the opening reception of this
beautiful show with an artist talk by Lara Felsing starting at 6:30 pm.

A Mirror with No Reflection Exhibition Tour
6:30-7:30 pm
Join us for a curator-led exhibition tour of A Mirror with No Reflection by Nicholas Hertz.
Visitors can feel like they have been allowed behind the camera to witness this story, but
nothing seems quite real. As they move through the space, their reflection keeps popping
up, caught on screens and paper surfaces. Everywhere, there are references to places that
they know and experiences that seem so familiar. For Nicholas, each moment is a small
fragment of a vivid memory, a documentation of their presence. A Mirror with No
Reflection reveals a story in images while gathering your memories and experiences.
Together, we stare into the same mirror as we work to understand.

Discomforting Echoes Exhibition Tour
6:30 – 7:30 pm
Join our Curator, Emily Baker for this in-depth look at Discomforting Echoes by Heraa Khan.
Heraa creates masavari, traditional Indo-Persian miniature paintings. The smallest brush
strokes are layered one on top of another, building up jewel-toned colours with incredible
depth and mesmerizing details. While her techniques and tools are grounded in a historical
tradition, the subjects are grounded in the present. Human civilization has radically altered
the balance of our world, creating an unprecedented climate crisis. We are living the
consequences of prioritizing progress over balance, extraction over preservation. The art of
masavari has always been used to share stories, and with Discomforting Echoes Heraa Khan
is painting the story of our time.
